Frequently Asked Questions
1. Can a player fill-in for another team and play 2 games in one weekend?
A player can fill-in for another Subiaco Team but only to avoid a forfeit. A player can only fill-in if they are registered with Subiaco. But teams must comply with fill-in rules, or their game will be forfeited.
A player may fill-in for a team with less than 6 of their regular players eg it a team has 6 of their regulars they don’t need a fill-in. If a team has 5 of their regular players they can have 1 fill-in, if a team has 4 of their regular players they can have 2 fill-ins, if a team has 3 of their regular players they can have 3 fill-ins etc.
However, you must only fill-in for a higher grade (a player in U14 – div C can only fill-in for :- U14 – div B team or a U14 – div A team or U16 or U18). A player can only fill-in for a maximum of 4 games per team in the season before they are required to move up (see Hawks By-Laws 13.5).
NOTE – the number 1,2,3.. attached to the division is just for grouping purposes it is consider part of same division, meaning B1, B2, B3 is all division B.
Once you have arranged the fill-in player(s) you need to add the player(s) to your team line-up on the IPAD/tablet as a ‘Fill-In’ player prior to the game starting. Do not use the absent player’s name. Ensure the correct spelling of their name, date of birth and email address all match to the player’s registered Play Hq account or the game will be deemed a forfeit.
If you require a fill-in player the team manager can post a message on the relevant What’s App group chat with all details; age group, division, date, time, venue, number of fill-in players required.
For further details on fill-in/replacement player rules see Hawks By-Laws point 12. For a copy of the Perry Lakes Hawks Basketball Association (PLHBA) Junior Competition By-Laws head to the Hawks website – https://www.hawksbasketball.com.au/junior-rules/
2. How do I submit a forfeit?

4. Can I request a change in time for a game?
With over 400 teams in the competition, it is a real effort to change fixtures and it causes issues for courts, umpires etc. It creates a lot of work, SORRY but Hawks can no longer offer change in game timings.

6. What does the Team Manager do?
Please note every team MUST have a Team Manager
It’s easy! You are the contact between the coach/club and the players. It involves:
- Team managers must register on Play HQ to receive our communications.
- Collecting and distributing the team playing tops pre-season
- Getting all parents onto a team app (Team app/Whats app) to notify of game and/or training changes (game time and court)
- Organise a scoring roster so there is a scorer on the bench each game
- As stadium scoring is operating, select the players who are playing and ensure the number is correct against the player
- Let the team know when team photos are being taken
- Notify the club of the need to forfeit a game or if the team has any game day issues
- Collect and return playing tops at the end of the season
7. Scoring
All parents are expected to help score throughout the season. Every team does it on a roster system, your Team Manager usually does a roster, and they will send it around to advise when you are scoring.
If you are away, then please swap your scoring roster with another parent.
It is important to keep a professional, neutral position when scoring, saving your enthusiastic cheering until after the game. Things sometimes go wrong with equipment, and it is okay to attract the attention of the referees when the ball is not in play to sort out any scoring problems.
First listed team on the fixtures the scorer manages the score board and is the ‘Home Team’ which is left on the IPAD (tablet) display.
Second listed team on the fixtures the scorer manages the IPAD (tablet) and is the ‘Away Team’ which is right on the IPAD (tablet) display.
9. Where do I get uniforms from and what are the rules?
We provide player jersey for the season but the player jersey needs to be returned to us in good condition at the end of the season.
Lost jerseys will incur a $55 replacement cost.
Our player shorts can be purchased on our website SHOP or on Play HQ upon registration into the team before the season starts.
Please note: All players in the team must be correctly attired by Week 2 of the season. The penalty for incorrect uniform is three game points per player for U12 and below and five game points per player for U14 and above being awarded to the opposing team. Officials reserve the right to prevent a player from participating in a game if they deem an item of clothing to be dangerous, eg, shorts with pockets. Points must be awarded before the conclusion of the half-time period.
A new player is allowed one week to conform to the uniform rules.
Compression garments can be worn as long as they are skin-tight and are black, white or the same colour as the playing uniform.
When collecting uniforms, we require details of the purchase and proof of payment.
If uniforms (shorts/hoodies etc) are ordered prior to team bag collection at the start of the season, then the uniforms will be placed in the team bag for team managers to distribute to players.
